Life isn't always fair. This is something worth thinking about that Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO, tells me recently in her book Tough Choices.
It reminds me of our national tragedy on 2008/5/12, 14:28. In face of the sudden and senseless taking of lives, disastrous loss, pain, people even do not have a choice, leaving them only endless helplessness and hopelessness. From the moment, time still flies, but that clock stopped.
Now, it's almost two months after National Mouring Day. May the ones we lost rest peacefully, the injured recover swiftly and all of us keep helping those in need. When carried out continuously, every little act of caring is heroic.
Life isn't fair, for those pass away. But for us alive, where there is a life, there is a hope to be fair. Even though there is no fairness, there is efficiency—working hard and smart—as an alternative. If fairness can lead all of us to a good quality of life, efficiency can also lead each of us to the same life.
Life isn't always fair, but always hopeful. Something different between God and us is that God takes charge of fairness while you and I take charge of efficiency.
